As Texas Instruments evolved as a high-tech innovator, the company became aware that its 1950s-era suburban campus did not reflect the new corporate image. Our task was to create a new site identity that reflected the innovations and traditions of the company. Key concepts of the solution included tying two previously unconnected sites together, improving way-finding between the campuses, and unifying the overall appearance of the streetscape.

The design process recoginized that the corporation should project a high profile toward the major freeway intersection surrounding the site. TI Boulevard becomes the primary access point from the freeway. A new Central Campus at this intersection will bridge the existing campuses, as well as embrace a DART mass transit station. Public art, a city park, a hike and bike trail, and uniform lighting, fencing and signage will help bind the sites together as one entity.

 

The Detail of site plan (drawing shown below) shows TI Boulevard's intersection with a major freeway. A new Central Campus between the two existing campuses will provide a higher profile for the corporation, while acknowledging the importance of the new DART mass transit station. Tower signs (shown in red) link the campus across the freeway. A new Multipurpose Building (shown on right) completes the gateway for the North Campus with the DMOS VI Building.

 

 

 

 The overall strategy involved pulling two separate campuses together into one unified whole. TI Boulevard serves as the link between campuses, while also providing a new focus for this inwardly-focused site. Intensive planting of trees, relocation of overhead power lines, and construction of a public hike & bike trail help reinforce TI's role as a community steward.
