The TI France master plan provided a footprint for a lobby addition, two new office wings, and a conference center on a dramatic site overlooking the French Riviera. The plan maximized views to the Mediterranean for an elite group of engineers working on digital signal processing for cutting-edge wireless technology.
Design challenges included hilly terrain combined with complicated height limitations. The additions were designed with garden atrium links which facilitated the elevation transitions, while causing as little disruption to the occupants as possible during construction.
The master plan program was initially developed during a three-day, on-site charette. After the concepts were distilled in our office, a local design team completed construction documents in France.
The west elevation study matches the concrete and glass vocabulary of the original building. Garden atrium courts (shown at right) serve as the transition between old and new. The upper floors preserve east views to the Mediterranean and west views to the mountains beyond.

The campus in Nice was originally designed for electronics assembly when it opened in 1965. The campus now serves as an engineering design center for wireless technology.
The site plan shows the challenges of making additions to this hilltop campus. As one of TI’s most prestigious workplaces, it was important to preserve views of the Mediterranean and limit disruptions due to construction.
