Following the sale of a manufacturing division at the Austin site, Texas Instruments faced an identity problem in sharing facilities with its new tenant, Solectron. The design solution combines new signage, lobby renovations, and landscape improvements which draw the visitor to the new TI entry. The lobby was carved out of existing office space using phased demolition which allowed the adjoining Credit Union to operate during construction. Xeriscaped gardens and limestone signage harmonize with the existing campus, yet give TI Austin a distinctive local flavor. Other issues, such as secured entry and handicapped accessibility requirements were incorporated into this low-cost, effective aproach to the site. The entire project was designed and built in six weeks.

Above, the limestone marker quickly became a favorite throughout the corporation, and is being used as a new prototype for signs on the TI Dallas campus.
Sidewalk and landscape improvements were used to give the new lobby a more dignified entry sequence, while also used as a means to draw visitors from the parking lot to the door. |
